Magna Indexium
The Grand Index, cared for by the Old Librarian. These walls contain an ages wealth of lore and wisdom from dedicated scholars since the advent of recorded history. Experts and beginners alike ought to refer to these dusty, old tomes whenever the way gets dark. These manuscripts have a funny little habit of often lighting ones way

Gnoth
What remains of a town ransacked and torn open long ago, left to fester and rot like an open sore before God.

These decaying boondocks once held higher appeal, even a welcoming ambiance before its supple belly attracted a scourge of Blood Drinkers and in one night's orgy of death and bedlam, was trampled nearly to the brink of oblivion. What survives today is merely the ghost of its former self, haunting the area where its derelict corpse died

Bethlam
Town of the Damned. Or, at the very least ardently dubbed such by those residing in neighboring townships. Bethlam, unlike Gnoth, was spared the Vampyre holocaust that befell its companion municipality decades ago, but rather, was bequeathed a pox of its own.

For reasons none can say this region seems dedicated to the production of madmen and lunatics, the lion's share of ultimately making their beds in the Asylum hardly a half day's travel north-east. Some say the town is cursed and any who choose to reside their run the gambit of forsaking their mind, bodies and soul.

Though, more often than not, it is the former of the three to find itself missing. Bethlam also sustains Darkholm's largest gypsy population, a trait which has not gained it much favor in the eyes of the cautious

Lochton
Better known for its famous Festival of the Hunt, an event which pits warriors and hunters from all over Darkholm against one another with the promise of fame, glory and a hefty bounty at the end, Lochton is quite lively for a small township, its people bold, gallant and ever-ready.

Its days spent entwined in some grueling bouts of labor; its nights marked by the jubilation that comes from having lived yet another day. While its celebratory policies seem to fly in the face of Darkholm's greater reality, this is merely Humanities way of accepting what it cannot accept; Death comes for us all. But, joy is only found by those who seek it out

Willowheim
Itself a lavish town of aristocrats that romp all day, and hide in the safety of their mansions all night, not fool enough to risk being out past nightfall. Something that shows, at least, the rich and the poor truly are not all that different. They value their lives, as well.

The high apartments, and luxurious complexes belies the truer macabre of the world, a fact that, assuredly, is no mistake. Another fact about Willowheim: It has the highest death rate in Darkholm

Versailles
The City of Lovers. Versailles is a city nearly overtaken by the tumultuous flow of the river Occuyx, a water flow originating from the Tantalus mountain, it was ancient long before the Ethos, or even the city of Versailles itself was even conceived.

Its dark, opaque waters twist and arc their way through the liquid avenues of this modestly adorned city. While it barely graces Willowheim's luster and elegance, its unique ambiance has attracted lovers and visitors from around Darkholm, young and old, rich or poor. Man, and monster.

To date, Versailles is a favored locale for those with a whimsical, romantic heart. Local legend says should one toss a coin in its waters, and make a wish, it will surely come true. Ah, but this is most likely childish superstition

Orilon
A warrior’s haven. Orilon is known as the ‘Iron City’ due to its premier export, metallurgy. With its knack for processing and refining minerals, it is no wonder the lion’s share of ore mined from the Tomb of the Unknown Kings finds its way here, and rightly so; among Darkholm, no other town can claim to possess Orilon’s affinity for the craft of metalworking and blacksmithing.

Known far and wide their craftsmen of this steadfast town have been called upon to serve kings and queens, lords and ladies, dukes and duchesses.

The town’s days spent toiling away, its night preparing for yet another day of self-sustaining labor, labor the whole of Darkholm depends on to keep itself in the Modern Age. Warriors seeking to enhance their own arsenals or simply seeking a good buy are wise to meander in; the wares are, as always, hot to trot

Barbaroi
Dubbing the swamps of Barbaroi as deadly is a woeful understatement. The squalid waters of these pitiful marshlands aid none whom attempt in traversing them, though they do provide ample cover for the myriad of fiends and monsters that opt to reside here.

Naturally, it would be wiser to simply decline to enter in, but the region houses several monuments that humans find tempting, such as the mines which are this worlds only source of exotic minerals and metals, meaning at some point if society wishes to remain in the 'Bronze Age', someone will have to mine them. And don't think there's a fiend or monster within Barbaroi that doesn't consider this an advantageous position

Ravenstown
Too small to be called a town. Too populated to be considered abandoned, Ravenstown, named so for the excessive amount of ravens and other scavengers drawn to the carrion and corpses of deceased animals scattered throughout, is better thought of as a pass-through than a true settlement in of itself.

Only a few rickety shacks masquerading as dwellings, a well of questionable hygiene and the other side of this mockery of a town. The only reason one would be here, truly, is because they were merely passing through

Aberdeen Falls
Aberdeen Falls is the sum total of all five of Darkholm’s rushing rivers amalgamated into one hulking, white-water rapids. It is these very falls which provide the neighboring Tantalus with its hydropowered lifestyle and irrigation that the mountain metropolis sorely needs. Also representing the second highest point in Darkholm, it is a favored spot for those seeking to challenge themselves mind, body and spirit

Tantalus
The mountainous citadel, Tantalus, rests above the Black Lagoon, overlooking the Hill of Pain in the west. Here, the Ethos’ influence is most felt; several churches were built and designed in Tantalus, and many of the young that are enlisted and trained as future Ethonian Clerics are chosen from within.

The Ethos currently has a strong business relationship with Tantalus. But, business, like anything, has its limitations

Queen's Gate
There is a tale. A tale of a Queen, both proud and strong, who sought to gain the Wisdom of God. To that end, she ventured far and wide, dabbling in the arcane arts in order to feed her own desire for boundless knowledge. She learned from scholars, clergymen and even the odd mage here and there, alas none could offer her what she sought: the secrets of the universe, endless, unlimited wisdom. To possess eternal knowledge.

Her quest at long last brought her to stand at the foot of a towering archway and fueled with the promise that to pass between the arches was to be bestowed with God’s own wisdom, she passed through them. Never to be heard from again.

Time marched on. The centuries fall from the Tree of Time like so many leaves. Her story forgotten and unknown. Though the archway does exist accompanied by a legend befitting of it; a legend that states these arches be the pathway to a greater truth, that those seeking to know the purpose of life are beseeched to enter in…though the road to the Gate is not nearly as inviting

Wels
Known throughout Darkholm as the "Nitemare Expanse", the doleful wastelands of Wels marks the boundaries of "normal" society all while reducing the inhospitable terrains found elsewhere to nothing when measured against the relentless windstorms and merciless heat of this yawning dystopia.

Few pass this way and for good reason; it’s far too easy to become inexorably lost among the dunes or fall victim to the harsh sandstorms that often appear without warning and strike with a wrath worthy of a vengeful God. Wels is also home to the Baachi, feral, inhuman animal men who both fear and loathe Humanity

Sanctum Sanctorum
A name that means "Holiest of Holies", the monastery serves as the domicile of the Clerics and the stage from which they launch their campaign against the Devil.

The life of an Ethos Cleric is an amalgamation of rigorous training, deadly combat, and fervent study and worship. Yet the Ethos maintains a steadfast conviction to their enigmatic faith, leaping in battle with the scourge of Darkholm.

If while viewing the massive ramparts, rising into the dismal heavens, one suddenly begins to wonder if this structure is, in actuality, a fortress… it would amount to an astute observation on their part; surrounded by a sanctified forest and patrolled by unbeatable Golems, the domicile of the Ethos is virtually unassailable
